I have been getting my contact lenses from the same high street supplier since I was 15 and I am now 25. I realised the other day that the service is so completely rubbish, it makes me feel stupid for having given them my money for all this time. If you call them no one answers. If you go in, the staff look at you as if to say, who are you? What do you want from us? The phone is ALWAYS ringing and no one seems to know what’s going on.

I was talking about this to my boss who was like, why don’t you just buy your contact lenses online? The thought of doing something like that was kind of alien and scary – how can you buy contact lenses online? Basically, your old stupid optician faxes the online guys your prescription and you can order any brand you like –they stock them all – for like half the price of the stupid high street retailer. I was definitely sceptical at first and now I can’t believe a) how many years of my life I spent waiting on the phone and arguing with these idiots and getting the most rubbish service and b) how much more I have been paying for this rubbish service. I now get my contact lenses from Postoptics who stock all the major brands and are an official optometrist. They deliver straight to my address, the exact same contact lenses as I was getting before for way cheaper. I can actually reach them via telephone and email, is amazing. I have now realised that I only need an optician for actual physical eye tests, I don’t need them when I am happy with my prescription and just need my monthly supply of contact lenses.
